GYNECOLOGY
: Preventive Care :
The foundation of our practice is preventive care for women. We not only address the reproductive health care needs of our patients but we also provide assessment and recommendations about a woman’s overall health. Depending upon the age of the patient, annual or biannual visits are advised. We provide a reminder letter as most women lead a busy life and may let more time pass than they realize between checkups. The annual exam will vary depending upon the needs of the individual woman. In addition to providing general gynecologic care, we recognize that heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis are major health concerns for women. We screen for hypertension, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and tobacco usage. Bone density studies, colon cancer screening and referrals for mammography and colonoscopy are performed in accordance with national guidelines. We encourage a healthy lifestyle and discuss dietary changes, exercise habits, and emotional wellness, and call upon the expertise of other health care providers as needed when a patient needs additional care. Whatever their age, we encourage women to have an active role in their health care.
: General Gynecology :
From adolescence to the postmenopausal years, we provide preventive care for a woman’s reproductive health. Some of the most common concerns we treat are:
- Contraceptive needs. In addition to expertise in prescribing and managing hormonal contraceptives, we can insert intrauterine devices.
- Screening for and prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
- Cervical cancer screening and assessment of abnormal pap smear results. The gardasil vaccine designed to prevent cervical cancer is available at our office.
- Assessment and treatment of menstrual irregularities and pain. Laboratories for blood work, ultrasound, and sonohysterography are readily available to assist us in our evaluation so that a rapid assessment is possible which reduces the need for additional visits or trips to other facilities. We also perform in office hysteroscopy and a variety of biopsies as needed.
- Initial assessment of infertility. In vitro fertilization is not available and patients are referred to reproductive endocrinologists for subspecialty services.
- Menopausal symptoms and the menstrual irregularities common at menopause.
- Vaginal and pelvic infections.
- Pelvic relaxation or prolapse.
- Stress incontinence.
- Vulvar disease. Chronic itching, skin changes, and growths are common problems.
